Top Prospect #22: Dexter Fowler

NAME: Dexter Fowler
POSITION: Outfield
ORGANIZATION: Colorado Rockies

MiLB .335 92 20 64 .431 .515
MLB .154 3 0 0 .185 .154

Scouting Report: Fowler is an incredible athlete and five-tool player who has been continuing to improve his game each season. He’s a switch hitter who has vastly improved his strike zone judgment which has translated into his power potential being uncovered with more balls hit to the gaps and an increase in homers. His plus-speed is very apparent on the base paths as well as in the field. He is a stolen base threat which will help him as a top of the order type guy. He also covers a lot of ground in center as a plus-defender and has solid arm strength. Luckily Fowler has continued to improve each season and has become an on base machine as the Rockies are in need of someone like him in their lineup as Willy Taveras never panned out.

I like Fowler, but still think Rasmus is going to be a much better prospect. Will be interesting to see if he ranks higher on your list….

Fowler maybe 5 months older but he’s proven that he can hit over .300 in AA while Rasmus has went from .270 to .251 from AA to AAA. Fowler is going to be much stronger than Rasmus, and it doesn’t help that some scouts have said Rasmus could be a poormans Bobby Higginson.

  3. E K says:

If Rasmus can ever remain health he will be a MUCH better player then Fowler.

  4. I’ve been a big Fowler guy and think he’s going to be fantastic. I wanted to put him higher but I wanted to see just a little more and make sure his improvements stick.

As far as Rasmus I think he has the higher ceiling that Fowler but I don’t know if he will end up reaching it. I hope he does as the Cardinals need a player like him to rise up through their system. Hopefully Rasmus can shake the injury from last season and get himself back on track.

  5. Mike says:

I think Daryl Jones has a shot of passing Rasmus if Jones gets off to a hot start in AA and Rasmus has another typical slow start.

  6. E K says:

People seem to forget that Rasmus is still only 22 years old. I admit that he needs to put together a full season for once, but the Cards aren’t going to give up on him anytime soon. He’ll get his shot.
