Cutter how do you feel on Angel Villaluna is he going to be a beast in a few years?
Prospect Central
A large percentage of the work I do here on “The Diamond Cutter” is directed towards my work with baseball prospects. Due to this, a lot of times it may be difficult to sift through everything to find exactly the prospect information you are looking for. So to make all of our lives easier I have set up this section called “Prospect Central” where you can find all my prospect work as it becomes available. This section will always be a work in progress since I am constantly adding new material and sifting through my archives. Please let me know if you notice anything missing or even if there is a certain area in the exciting world of prospects you’d like me to discuss sometime. I’m always looking for suggestions and, as always, looking for your input via comments or emails.

Matt - are you going to continue your top 5 prospects by organization?

Steve - yes I definitely will be continuing that ASAP. I had to pause it during my transition to Baseball Digest Daily, the top 100 and now my predictions for the upcoming season. But now that things are calming down I will begin releasing those again. Thanks!!!

Matt,
Who in this pro draft will have immediate impact along the lines of a David Price? I got lucky last year and once he signed with the Rays added him to my Rookies (I’m in a keeper league with 6 rookie spots and can trade 1 out a year during the season). Thank you for all your help.

Hey Dennis, I honestly don’t think anyone in the draft will have the same type “immediate impact” as Price has, but I do feel there are a lot of fantastic young players.
For the first time that I can remember, there is such a big question mark as to which players will fall where in the draft as there are so many talented guys. With that being said, the guy that I belive has the best potential to be the “next big thing” will be Pedro Alvarez with his incredible bat skills and monster power. Defensively he’s a question mark as he isn’t a bad third baseman but isn’t a great one either. But for fantasy baseball, who cares? Regardless, my guess is based on his past performance as well as what he has yet to accomplish, he will most likely land the top spot in the 2008 draft with the Rays.
Even with the incredible success the Rays have had this year it is scary to think how good they will be in the next couple of seasons.
